WWW

Short for World Wide Web, today we simply say web. It is actually a worldwide linking of documents on the http protocol using hyperlinks. A user looks at web pages on the World Wide Web through a web browser.

The www was publicly introduced in 1990. In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee wrote a proposal that referenced ENRIQUE, a database and software project he built in 1980. Tim Berners-Lee currently serves as a director of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

NeXT was used as the first web server. The first web browser, named simply WorldWideWeb (later renamed Nexus), was also written on this computer.

Tim Berners-Lee also developed three fundamental pillars of the Internet:

  • URL and URI, a system of globally unique identifiers for resources on the Web
  • HTML, the publishing language
  • „HTTP“?http://hosting.blueboard.cz/napoveda/http

The year 1993 is generally considered to be the turning point for the World Wide Web, when the Mosaic web browser was created. It was easy to install, had a clear user interface (similar to today's browsers), and worked for Windows.
