FreeBSD is a UNIX-based operating system distributed for free. FreeBSD is the most widely used operating system in the BSD family and is also the most widely used, free, open source operating system.
Unlike many UNIX operating systems, FreeBSD is a complete OS – including its own kernel, drivers for various devices, a shell, and other features that were developed together. In the case of other Linux distributions, parts are often developed separately and then put together.
There is also a repository of thousands of third-party programs and extensions for FreeBSD. These programs are no longer developed directly by the FreeBSD developers, who only provide the framework.
The first version of FreeBSD was released in 1993. FreeBSD also uses Hosting Blueboard.
