DoS

DoS (also known as DDoS, or Distributed Denial of Service) is an attempted attack on a web service/webpage that results in the target being disabled for a period of time.

A DoS attack is characterized by overwhelming the target server – the attacker overwhelms the server with an abnormal amount of requests for external communication – resulting in either a significant slowdown of the site or a complete shutdown.

The targets of such DoS attacks are often various banks, credit companies, government institutions, large corporations…

This is an unsanctioned and immoral activity that goes against the principles of Internet use and is opposed by virtually all ISPs. Moreover, in the vast majority of countries, a DoS attack violates the law, so it is an illegal and unlawful activity.
