It stands for Virtual Private server. It is a type of hosting where one physical server runs simultaneously several virtual servers simultaneously. A virtual server pretends to be a server but it is only a software solution that allows multiple servers to be simulated on a single machine. Hence, it is an option that is cheaper than renting the entire server.
