VPN

A VPN (short for Virtual Private Network) is a secure ? network that allows users to connect to their systems remotely. VPNs are usually secured with a firewall, password and encryption, as private or personal information and data is often involved.

The most common use of VPNs is in a corporate or home environment. A company sets up its own VPN server, which its employees, who are often on the road for example, connect to using the Internet. Thus, these users usually connect to internal company networks from anywhere where an internet connection is available.

With the development of cloud solutions, these users often do not have to connect to internal systems developed by the company, but can use, for example, Google Apps and similar cloud solutions.

The different ends of the communication ?tunnel? (i.e. the connection from the end client to the VPN server) must be secure. Secure VPNs can include IPsec (Internet Protocol Security), SSL/TLS, DTLS, SSTP, SSH and other security methods.
