What is PHP?


PHP is a generic scripting language running on a server that you can use to dynamically generate your web pages. PHP was originally developed for web development. It is also one of the first scripting languages that can be easily embedded in an HTML source document, instead of using an external file.

PHP can be used on most web servers, platforms, and operating systems as a standalone shell, and it's free.

The acronym PHP used to stand for „Personal Home Page“, but now stands for „PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor“.
